Last night my mom and I went to see the National Theatre of Britain’s production of Warhorse. After seeing the puppets used for the show at AVA Gallery awhile back at First Thursdays, I was really excited to see the show.
I haven’t read the book or watched the film that came out in 2011, so I didn’t know much about the actual plot of the play, just a tiny bit from the synopsis I had read online.
The show was truly amazing, it exceeded my high expectations. Warhorse has travelled all around the world and first visited to Joburg, before gracing Cape Town with it’s presence. It was clear that the actors and actresses were well rehearsed and were used to performing in front of a crowd.
Even more amazing – well for me, were the puppet masters controlling the props used to create the horses and various other animals on stage. There was a definite element of performance art used to create the movements of the animals.
The production of Warhorse has received wonderful reviews from audiences all over the world and ending the show in a standing ovation last night, I’m sure that South African audiences are in agreement with the international fans.
I also think that you shouldn’t really go theatre without getting a bit dressed up. Below are photos of the outfit I wore, just a few things I had in my cupboard which I hadn’t worn in a while.
Dress – Cool boutique, N1 city
Shoes – Mr Price
Bracelets – Edgars
Lip Stick – Hang – up by MAC
Hope you’re all enjoying the first few days of 2015
