A few weeks ago we attended the Mae Artisan Rugs Media Launch. Guests met at their showroom and were whisked away to an undisclosed location for an intimate lunch and to view pieces from their new collection.
The venue turned out to be the spectacular Luxus Villa in Clifton, attended by just 20 guests from both print and digital media; it was truly an honour to be on the list.
We were welcomed with champagne and canapés, and invited to tour the villa which had been styled by Mae and her team with their beautiful artisan rugs. From their extensive collection they were able to create design solutions for the various rooms and each rug looked as if it was created for the space in which it was placed.
Special Guest, Laureen Roussouw, Design consultant and former editor-in-chief of Elle decor South Africa introduced Mae with the heart-warming story of how she came to know the brand, and explained what ultimately drew her in:
“I first became fascinated with Mae Rugs when I realized the variety of beautiful carpets and rugs they have and the individualized services the company can provide-and of course, that it was headed by a young woman”
Mae and her team are truly passionate about their pieces and take every opportunity to produce something unique, from custom orders to upcoming bespoke collaborations with designers like Malcolm Klük/CGDT and Michael Chandler. With prominent clients in interior design and architecture such as Antoni Associates, Okha and M-Interiors (to name a few) it is evident that they offer impeccable quality and service.
“By doing everything ourselves, we are able to create exactly what we set out to create, down to the finest detail,” explains Mae. “Each piece is a true labour of love; an artistic creation intended to enhance a living space for many, many years.”
The event was thoughtfully planned and skilfully executed – complete with hand-written thank-you notes from Mae herself. We were truly able to get a feel for the brand, and the level of professionalism and authenticity with which their business is run. If you’d like to enquire about their amazing Artisan rugs, you can get in touch via their Website and, chat with them on Twitter, or check out what they’re up to on Facebook and keep up with the day to day on Instagram.
But, quite honestly, the best thing to do is take a trip down to their showroom at 58 Roeland street, Cape Town. Have a look at their pieces or even chat with Mae about creating a custom piece to suit your colour scheme, style, space and needs It’s truly worth the visit.
