Music Mondays: Bon Iver

November 4, 2014

Bon Iver is an American indie and folk band, which enjoyed a rapid rise to success, after winning 2 Grammy awards in their first year of nomination, 2012.

I’ve been a fan of founder: Justin Vernon and his band (and his face, and that amazing falsetto he serenades listeners with) since the 9th Grade. I recently hopped on iTunes to see if there were any EPs or live performances that I had not yet had the pleasure of listening to, I was not disappointed.

Apart from the two studio albums: For Emma, Forever Ago (2007), Bon Iver, Bon Iver (2011), there were a few live performances and EP’s available too.

I swiftly downloaded The MySpace Transmissions (2008) and Bon Iver – the iTunes session (2012)

The MySpace Transmissions Included songs from For Emma, Forever ago, Including a moving, somewhat stripped down rendition of my favourite Bon Iver song, Flume.

Those lyrics, though *insert all the feels*

Bon Iver – the iTunes session featured songs from their self-titled album Bon Iver. I especially enjoyed the vocal clarity and simplicity of this session, though it didn’t vary much from the album, and included 7 tracks in comparison to the studio album which has 10.

Whether you’re a fan or haven’t heard of Bon Iver until now, these two ‘secret’ offerings are worth checking out.
