Oh, Hi There Spring

September 1, 2014

Today is the first of September, which marks the end of a very cold winter here in Cape Town and the beginning of the sunny weather, beach adventures and all the wonderful things that come with spring and summer.

One thing we all have to deal with on a daily basis is what to wear? It’s still cold in the mornings and evenings, but the weather tends to get extremely hot during the day.

Here is a list of my top essentials for Spring, clothing that everything should have or get to survive the spring time and still keep up with this seasons trends.

Cami

Cami tops features simple and minimal designs, perfect for a ‘less is more’ look. From simple black cam is to even brightly coloured patterned ones, this is a timeless collection that will take you through the seasons. The classic cami works well with a pair of skinny trousers or even tucked into a pretty skirt.

Kimono

Cover up in a quirky kimono, the season’s most-wanted wrap. From floaty sheer fabrics to tassel trims, hippy tie dye hints to edgy ethnic edits, there’s a kitsch kimono to keep you looking cool. Be the epitome of beach babe, and layer over a bikini and denim shorts for a sizzling style statement. Move over kaftan, there’s a new cover up kid on the block.

Jumpsuit/Playsuit

Playsuits and Jumpsuits are perfect for play time or day time – from pretty petals by day and punk- inspired by night. Making way for the minimal trend, the cami jumpsuit looks just as cool for cocktails as it does layered with a basic tee

Pom Pom Shorts

Pom Pom shorts are the cutest new fashion trend. They are flowy shorts with pom pom fringing on the ends, which gives a playful look to any spring outfit.

Dungarees

Yes, Dungarees are back. I’m so excited about this because I LOVE DUNGREES. The nice thing about them is that you can change the look of the outfit by simply changing the top worn under. Long or short dungarees are always a practical way to go.

Sneakers

Sneakers aren’t just worn when running errands on Saturday mornings, they are featuring more and more in causal day outfits, in different styles, different patterns and colours.

Accessories – layered necklaces, midi rings, hair chains

Layered necklaces, midi rings, hair chains and body chains will all add to a spring outfit. They can easily make an outfit more vibrant and fun.

All of these items can be found at local clothing stores. Look out for a few of them in  future DIY features here on Separated Sisters.
