The Skincare Edit

December 16, 2016

Over the last year or so, my skin has done an complete 180 degree turn from what it was, to what it is now. From acne scars, to pigmentation and the strangest combination of dry and oily ever (literally ever, my face map looks like the coat of a Dalmatian) There have been a few products that have really helped me along the way. I’ve grouped the products by brand for easy reference.

Nimue Cleansing Gel Lite: a lightweight cleansing gel perfect for everyday use and getting rid of those last bits of makeup. This is a perfect cleanser for combination skin that tends to run a bit more on the oily side.

Nimue Purifier: This is one of my two favourite products in the Nimue range – this is a moisturiser with tea tree extracts that acts to calm skin while moisturising. It smells absolutely amazing and absorbs into the skin quickly – It works great for day and night usage.

Nimue Exfoliting Enzyme: A second favourite of mine in the Nimue range, this gel-like product is applied to clean, dry skin and left on for two minutes before being reactivated with water and then rinsed off. This is different to most masks in that it has a light chemical exfoliating action. The folks over at Nimue also recommend that you use gauze rather than cotton pads for a light physical exfoliation action. I definitely feel the difference in the texture of my skin after using this treatment – softer, more taught and moisturised.

Clarins Bright Plus HP Brightening Night Cream: Clarins has been a big name in the skincare industry for years, and it’s no secret why: their products are expertly created. This night cream replaces moisture while avoiding stickiness and it smells absolutely amazing!

Clarins Bright Plus HP Intensive Brightening Smoothing serum: I never understood serums until this product, but they truly are a game changer. This particular serum creates even tone while creating luminous skin with a natural glow.

Clinique Spot treatment gel: This product is the first thing I reach for when I see a the beginning stages of pimple. Designed as an acne solution, salicylic acid is the active ingredient which rapidly clears blemishes and helps prevent new ones from forming.

Clinique Pep Start eye cream: Eye cream is not something I thought would be a part of my daily routine so early in life, but as someone who is often rather sleep deprived, its done wonders for my under-eye area. The formula is instantly hydrating and glides on easily, I truly do feel like I look more awake after using this product.

Lipidol suntan oil: This, is undoubtedly the best sunscreen I have ever used. The oil formula is enough to leave anyone skeptical, but the folks over at lipidol clearly know what they’re doing. A sunscreen that is both light and hydrating while remaining effective – who could ask for more?

Clicks Perfecting Nose Pore Strips (Charcoal): Pore strips have been all the rage lately, so when I saw the Clicks skincare range had expanded to include this trendy product, I just had to get my hands on it. The strips themselves apply really well and do a great job of clearing those pesky nose pores of stubborn blackheads and whiteheads. Tip: use the strip right after a hot shower or steaming your face, your pores will be open and therefore the strip will attach more firmly and work more effectively.

So there you have it! a few game-changers, for me at least.  The prices and availability of these products change constantly – all the products in this post range between R79.99 and R780.00 but if you leave me a comment I’ll be happy to request up-to-date pricing of specific products.
To clear skin and the confidence that comes with it!
